Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally present in the skin. When present in the right amount and proportion, it gives the skin a smooth, young and hydrated appearance. One of the factors that characterizes skin aging is the decrease in hyaluronic acid; as a result, soft tissue defects such as furrows, wrinkles, folds and lines appear, worsening the quality and thickness of the skin.
Products based on hyaluronic acid can be used to add volume to areas with marked furrows and wrinkles, as well as to increase the volume of other areas such as the lips. Hyaluronic acid injection is barely painful, since the product itself contains a local anesthetic. However, discomfort can be reduced even further by using anesthetic ointments before the procedure. Hyaluronic acid is injected directly into the area to be treated and its effect is immediate; over time, however, the hyaluronic acid molecules absorb more fluid and integrate into the surrounding tissue, producing a progressive improvement in the effects of the treatment. This substance is partially reabsorbed, with its effects lasting between 9 and 18 months depending on each patient’s characteristics and the product used.
