General overview
Labia minora reduction or labiaplasty is a surgical technique that reduces the size of the labia minora and reshapes their appearance. Enlarged labia minora can appear during adolescence, but it is often an acquired condition following childbirth, aging or recurrent genital infections. It can be uncomfortable in everyday life (rubbing against clothing or during sport) or a cosmetic concern.
Labiaplasty removes the excess skin and mucosa, leaving practically no visible scarring. The procedure can be combined with a reduction of the clitoral hood (removing the excess skin around the clitoris) and with reduction or augmentation of the labia majora.
Although this procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, we prefer to carry it out under general anesthesia in the operating room in order to offer greater comfort to our patients. Surgery takes between one and three hours, depending on the complementary procedures to be performed.
